100 out of 128 participants successfully donated blood during the SBFCC 13th Annual Blood Drive last October 10, 2018 at Ayala Malls Harbor Point.
Blood Drive 2018 was conducted by The Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross – Olongapo Chapter, Ayala Malls Harbor Point, and for the first time, LAB1 Diagnostic Center.
This yearly event promotes voluntary blood donation without compensation. It aims to raise awareness to individuals that they can save lives by donating blood— and benefit from it as well. The blood donations collected will be made available to the Philippine Red Cross – Olongapo City Chapter. The Philippine Red Cross- Olongapo Chapter also emphasized that the exchange of blood products to donors is no longer being applied ― meaning to say, a patient can avail of blood products without having a donor to give blood products in return.
Donors can only donate blood if they are fit to do so. With the help of PRC volunteer nurses and medical technicians, and doctors of LAB1 Diagnostic Center, participants had health check-up free of cost. Blood donation reduces risks of heart diseases and cancer. It helps to keep the levels of iron in the body in check. It also helps burn calories for about 650 Kcal per donation.
SBMA employees, SBMA locators and Zambales government employees were very supportive that has made the event successful. Some benefactors are from the SBMA Law Enforcement Department, Bureau of Fire Protection-Zambales, Absolute Service Inc., Subic Enerzone Corporation, Subic Water and Sewerage Co., Inc., Lindberg Ag A4-Branch, Lyceum of Subic Bay, Dunbrae Subic, Inc., Jollibee Subic, Mag Engineering, Steelfab Water Solutions Asia, Inc., Slabs, Global Terminals and Development, Inc., Converge ICT Solutions, and SGS Subic.
